Tesseract won the collegiate division championship at the Barbershop Harmony Society's Illinois District 2005 Spring Convention. The convention took place in Peoria from April 15th through 17th, and was hosted by the local Society chapter, the Illini Statesmen.
Only two quartets competed in the collegiate division this year, but both quartets came well-prepared and received high marks from the judges. The quartet from Northwestern and Roosevelt universities, Out of the Loop put up an 824 (out of 1200 possible). Tesseract narrowly topped their score with an 831.
Tesseract's performance qualifies the quartet to compete at the international convention in Salt Lake City, Utah this July. Along with the first place finish came a $2,000 prize to fund the trip to Utah.
The quartet's four members are two music majors, Ron Attreau and Clint Dodds, and two computer science majors, Chris Rishel and Steve Severinghaus. The quartet was formed in February of 2005 and has been performing around campus ever since.
